Erie PA, March 5, 2010 – The Sight Center of Northwest PA was gratified to receive the news that American Tinning & Galvanizing Company (ATG) has committed $ 5,000 towards their 2010 Capital Campaign. The Sight Center’s goal is to raise $ 1.3 million to purchase a new facility to house the organization’s programs and services. The Sight Center was founded in 1938 and is the only private, non-profit group in the Erie area, delivering 13 distinct vision related programs, primarily to low-income individuals and pre-school children.
“The deterioration or loss of sight can be one of the most devastating challenges that any person, young or old, can face. With Erie County having one of the highest per capita rates of blindness in the nation the tragedy of vision loss is a problem of special interest to American Tinning & Galvanizing Company and the local community. ATG is proud to play a part in the Capital Campaign”, stated the Financial & HR Manager, David Bertges.
American Tinning & Galvanizing Company (ATG) was founded in 1931 by Fred Carlson and is a third generation, family owned business specializing in the corrosion control of metal, steel and aluminum by providing “finishing” services. The metal finishing processes offered include hot dip galvanizing, zinc electroplating, cadmium electroplating, cold black oxide, and black phosphate. The aluminum finishes include sulfuric acid anodizing, chromic acid anodizing, chromate conversion coatings and, “two step” architectural bronze anodizing.
American Tinning & Galvanizing Company employs over 63 employees, working 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. The company occupies 72,000 square feet of production, fabrication and warehouse space on the same corner it did for nearly 80 years.
