ABOUT ATG
American Tinning & Galvanizing Company (ATG) specializes in the corrosion control of metal, steel and aluminum by providing “finishing” services to our customers. The metal finishing processes offered include hot dip galvanizing, zinc electroplating, cadmium electroplating, cold black oxide, and black phosphate. The aluminum finishes include sulfuric acid anodizing, chromic acid anodizing, chromate conversion coatings and, new in 2008, “two step” architectural bronze anodizing.
American Tinning & Galvanizing Company was founded in 1931 by Fred Carlson and is a third generation, family owned business. It was started as a tinning business with one employee and expanded its metal finishing capabilities during WWII. In 1955, Fred & Harry Carlson established Carlson Erie Corporation as a fabricator of tanks and racks for ATG and the plating industry. Carlson’s son-in-law, Jack Scheppner managed Carlson Erie Corporation and in the late 1970’s took over both companies. Upon Mr. Scheppner’s retirement the leadership of the company was passed on to his daughter, Kathleen. In 2004, Kathleen retired and Carlson Erie was merged into American Tinning & Galvanizing Company as its fabrication division. With Kathleen’s retirement, Jacqueline “Robin” Scheppner took the helm as Vice President and managing owner.
Since 2004 the ATG has developed into a prosperous company by becoming more competitive in the marketplace through an expanded menu of services; active pursuit of new customers, and earning Nadcap certification. This certification was attained for the fourth consecutive year in 2007 and was recognized “with merit” for our chemical processing systems. The company has invested in various advertising and marketing campaigns. We actively advertise on Thomas Net and have continuously upgraded our web site each year since 2004. We’re currently working on an upgrade that will help our customers send us request for quote information via our web site. The company has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to upgrade machinery, equipment and critical building repairs. Most recently, in 2007, the Company expanded its in-house water treatment system that recycles all rinse water and provides zero discharge into the municipal system. The company has experienced an increase in sales of 10 to 20% each year since 2004.
Today American Tinning & Galvanizing Company employs over 78 employees, working 24 hours a day, 5½ days a week. The company occupies 72,000 square feet of production, fabrication and warehouse space on the same corner it did over 75 years ago.
