West 12th Street in Erie, Pennsylvania is a little cleaner this week after employees and family members of American Tinning & Galvanizing Company participated in their quarterly Adopt-a-Highway program. The 14 participants picked up litter and garbage on West 12th Street between Peach Street and Weschler this past Saturday morning. “Surprisingly we had a really good time picking up the trash, I think we picked up a total of twenty bags of garbage”, stated first time participant 17 year old Kaylin Wyant. “I can’t wait to do it again”. Members of the group also eradicated graffiti or “tags” on public electrical boxes and light poles.
American Tinning & Galvanizing Company began its participation in the Penn Dot Adopt-a-Highway program three years ago in an effort to beautify the major access into downtown Erie. “We undertook this program because the West 12th Street corridor was getting some really bad press so we decided to spruce up the neighborhood” commented Financial Manager, David Bertges.
This was the third time the Company picked up litter and garbage on West 12th Street this year. They are planning another fall clean up for October 2009.
